End of module evaluation

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have

applied them?

Through this module i have gained skills in illustration and image making, idea generation, time management and planning and also in areas of motion graphics and screen printing. I felt i have applied these areas in the given briefs but also used the skills developed in other modules on the course.

2. What approaches to/methods of research have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have understood that research is a on going process and that sometimes research is need to be quick and enough and that sometimes it need to be long and exhaustive. For the majority of these briefs the research need to be quick and successful. This help me be decisive which is turn helped me make decisions about my design work and development.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I felt that my strength throughout out this module were meeting the briefs requirements but also finishing to a high standard. I felt this was particular present in the scale frame format brief where i felt my work was successful in terms of legibility and also in terms of atheistic appeal as the piece was to be viewed on a wall in a frame. I also felt that time management and planning was a strength and felt this was present in the book fair brief where i had a limited time scale.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

In this module i think my weakness was documenting ongoing evaluation and feedback from crits. I also felt that my feedback and evaluation needed to be more thorough this would of helped me progress and develop my work and practice further.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing

these?

1. Evaluate my work on going and document this on my blog so i can reflect on this to help push my work further.

2. Use more process such as screen printing as i want to develop this skill set further.

3. Use more timetables and list's this would help be more in control of work which in turn will reflect in my practical work.

4. Try and get more ideas down. although i have increased the idea output i still think my work would benefit from more idea generation.

5. Create more visual ideas and variation which again will help me decide on what work is most suitable for developing to a further stage.

More Tectonic visuals.

Tectonic branding and visuals.

Decided to look at some packaging and branding for Pinch's record label tectonic. I want to keep with he theme of this which will visually tie in my work with there branding.

It will also put my work into context, the DVD will be a freebie give away with DJ magazine and will be used for promotional use.

Pinch- Airlock

Finally decided on a track... this one. I think it gives me more scope to experiment with shape's and colour like i first intended due to the rythm and actual sounds that are used compared to a 4/4 track.

So i have limited the colour pallet to Blue as the song is from a LP called 'underwater dance hall' and i think this represent's the mood of the track also.

Sketchbook cover treatments

Ideas for the front cover of my coloured sketch books, the cover shall be screen printed on to white buckram in black which contrast's the brightly coloured paper on the inside. I think using just image rather than just type or image or type is more suitable to a sketchbook as it gives the idea of drawing/sketching etc.

Stopmotion final outcomes.

Space invaders

No letter form but just looking at the shape of the characters that are in space invaders. I think that using a 'old skool, digital type face will match the jerky stop motion style of animation.

3d letter form.

This book shows a good use of a stop motion and visually engaging letter forms. hopefullt the finished animation sequence the class creates will have a impact such as this one.

Moving image

2D-3D-2D Final Idea

This is my final idea for the 2D-3D-2D. I intend to create a more finished look for hand in by using a pillow with less color this will enhance the image of the teeth and flag.

2D-3D-2D Research

Just looking at people who use 3d work then produce the final work as photography, creating a scene or set. This gives the work a different quality from and can give off different messages than just printed flat work.

2D-3D-2D

Brief - Create a image in 2d make it 3d then produce it back to 2d through photography.

Who needs to know- This image will be informational and quite neutral, my audience there for could be anyone. I want it to be clear and legible.

What do they need to know - False teeth, Sleeping and Iceland.

What will they respond to - A clear image that makes sense.

What research is required - I will need to look at images of false teeth, buy props and look at other designers doing similar things.

Image. Scale/Frame/Format Final resolution.

Here is my final resolution for scale/frame/format. I think the black on yellow makes the image legible which is the whole point of the brief. Although i think a black on white could be more legible.

Trainers

>>>>Pictures taken for development of vector.

I thought about which Trainer shape i could use for my pictogram style vector i want to create. I shall create vectors of different trainers to see which shape is most legible.

Roads sings & ledgibility.

I think these are really good examples of clear legibility. There's visible from a distance and are straight to the point.

I have also thought about color, this again needs to be clear and easy to read. I'm think of using traditional signage color.

Eye charts

Ive looked at these before for the previous brief. But I do want to look at more interesting eye test charts, which Im sure there is.
